DMITRY UDOLI

Painter

Born in Sverdlovsk in 1989, Dima graduated from Ural Pedagogical University with a specialization in Screen Arts. He honed his craft under the tutelage of artist Mitznik and has been pioneering his own unique style of tattooing for the past 12 years. Operating from his own studio, he has made a name for himself in the avant-garde scene, using human skin as his canvas. Originally based in Saint Petersburg, Dima's creations, which he symbolically refers to as "Udoli," delve into themes of sorrow and the harsh realities of life.

His art is deeply rooted in Russian culture and history, blending elements of traditional criminal tattoos, 20th-century avant-garde movements, folk art, and the "animal style." Through this fusion, Dima explores the essence of Russian fatalism, a concept that has intrigued artists and writers throughout history, including Dostoevsky, Shalamov, and Letov.

In his recent works, Dima has used his art as a platform to voice his opposition to the authoritarian policies of his homeland. Following a visit from the police to his studio, Dima made the difficult decision to leave Russia behind.
