STEFAN RAGIMOV

Photographer - Visual Artist

Barcelona based visual artist Stefan Ragimov developed a strong connection to the visual arts from an early age. Originally from the Caucasus, he grew up between Moscow and Istanbul and completed his undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Visual Arts in Budapest. Working across photography, film, and performance, Ragimov combines photographic practice with cinematic and performative approaches to create carefully constructed narratives that exist between reality and fiction, exploring the relationship between image, memory, and lived experience.

Deeply rooted in observation, research, and personal experience, Ragimov’s artistic practice draws from the cultural landscapes of Eastern Europe and the Middle East. His work explores themes of identity, queer experience, cultural taboos, sexuality, and socio-political unrest, examining tensions between tradition, personal freedom, and social structures. Through historical references and staged imagery, his work challenges inherited narratives and contemporary patriarchal frameworks through a rebellious yet intimate approach. While grounded in his own experiences, his practice extends beyond autobiography, creating visual spaces where history, culture, and identity are questioned and reimagined.
