Group Exhibition

GALLERY LAUNCH

15 june - 10 july, 2024

Curated by Gabriella Uhl, Zema Contemporary presents its first exhibition with a carefully selected group show. Gallery Launch, showcasing selected artworks of 12 contemporary artists. Running between 15 June and 10 July 2024, the inaugural exhibition of Zema Contemporary unmistakably delineates the gallery's mission, reflecting its directional, intellectual, and territorial pursuits.

Embracing a critical stance on decolonization, the exhibition delves into the peripheral realms of the art world: those vocations either overlooked or yet to fully embrace their artistic endeavors. Throughout history, regions like Anatolia and the Caucasus have served as pivotal crossroads, bridging European cultural ethos with Asian intellectual and spiritual ideologies. These locales not only hosted trade routes but also facilitated the exchange of ideas, enriching cultural tapestries with a myriad of artifacts and creations. Such artifacts prompt contemplation on the relevance of European orientalist paradigms in the contemporary era, questioning their compatibility with traditional art historical and aesthetic frameworks.
