Dmitry Udoli
CITY OF EXILES
16 january - 15 february, 2026
City of Exiles presents a new chapter in the work of Dima Udoli, a Russian artist whose practice has long inhabited the margins of the body, of the state, of tradition. Forced to leave his homeland after political persecution, Dima found himself in Istanbul, a city shaped by centuries of displacement, layered with empires, exiles, and untold stories. In this unfamiliar place, he turned once more to visual language, transposing his deep, skin-bound iconography onto paper, canvas, and found surfaces. The works in this exhibition are raw yet refined, haunted by memory and marked by a stark lyricism. Istanbul does not appear directly, but it surrounds everything, a silent host, a mirror, a refuge. City of Exiles is not just a personal reckoning, it is a statement about identity without nation, about making meaning in transit, and about the fragile, fierce persistence of the artist’s voice when all else is taken away.
